Hermitcraft is a mere legend to most. A peaceful server run by powerful beings that can never die and can build entire mansions in a single sitting? It sounds like the kind of fairytale you tell a child to put them to sleep. Not something for people to dwell on, not when there are crops to grow, and wars to wage, and cities to rebuild. Not when the government is in shambles again, and certainly not when there are so many lives at stake.

However, I did say ‘to most’.

There is a very small percentage, at least compared to the total population of all the servers, that find a way to prove legends to be truth. Most of the time, they are not players searching for Hermitcraft, but rather players who deserve to find it anyway. The players who manage to catch the eye of the immortals who preside over the so-called myth, be it for their building prowess or for their talent with redstone, it does not matter, are often never seen again.

Not that any of the taken players mind it much, even the ones with family and friends. It's hard to keep track of time when you have to change worlds to keep hiding, or when you slowly become more like the world you inhabit and find yourself unable to stay dead. Plus, this is want you wanted, isn't it?

(After all, why would you think about your family when you haven't seen them in decades? Or maybe it's just been years? Although there was that time Olivia from the bakery mentioned centuries… Either way, you chose to come here, so why worry about the Before?)

However, that doesn't mean that these disappearances aren't noticed. Players have been reporting loved ones mysteriously vanished for hundreds of thousands of years, but that is too little, too late. Although it does lead to many tales springing up. Tales of people watching and listening and taking whoever they deem fit to join them are not uncommon.

(And truly, you wonder, are those tales incorrect? They do listen and watch and take. Although they do get mixed up with the ones who Watch and Listen sometimes. The Hermits are much kinder than those, though, so you're not quite sure how that happens.)

Now, with the way it's phrased, you might think that the Hermits are cruel. They are not. Or if they are, they are not the cruellest things out there. They care quite a lot for beings that seem so inhuman. They only take players that show their potential in a way that is not fit for the mortal world. Unlike some, they do not play word games or trick you into joining them. They simply smile at you and wait for you to realize what they already know, that your fate leads you to them, and theirs to you.

They are inhuman, a server full of void walkers, and zombies, and hybrids, and ancient unknowable beings, but they are so very kind and so very human. And they will be kind to you too, I promise.

Wouldn't you like to build things not fit for human eyes? Create machines that are too powerful to run in mortal servers? Express your talents, no matter how seemingly useless? Brew potions and pose armour stands and create games and feel finally free? So come on, Hermitcraft is a mere legend to most, wouldn't you like to be part of the few to who it is not?
